Claire Tailyour was born in South Africa but grew up in the UK and USA. She has an MFA from USC's School of Cinematic Arts, Los Angeles. Her debut feature script Mother Wild won BAFTA Rocliffe and PAGE awards in 2020, and is currently optioned. She has directed hundreds of hours of television including Jimmy McGovern's Moving On, BAFTA nominated Hollyoaks, BBC/PBS/AFI documentaries including Life, Death and Cheerleading, The Forgotten Girls of Dhaka, The Surrogates Club, as well as directing High End TV 2nd Unit on Rob Lowe's Wild Bill and My Name Is Lizzie.
Claire was a Producer at the BBC for many years before leaving in 2013 to set up her own production company Slackwire Films. Their first commission was funded as part of Sundance London; a steampunk sci-fi Ruby's Skin starring Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One, Vanity Fair, Modern Love) and John Bowe (The Hour, Silent Witness). She went on to write and direct the Directors UK/Arri Alexa short Belittled starring Kiran Sonia Sawar (Black Mirror) and Raffiella Chapman (His Dark Materials, Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children) which was nominated for Best Writer and won Best Composer at BAFTA qualifying Underwire Film Festival.
She is a BFI Network/BAFTA Crew member, a Sundance International Scriptwriter Semi-finalist and a Semi-finalist for The Academy Awards' Nicholl Fellowship. Claire wrote the Harper Collins web series adaptation of The Adventures of MacKenzie Blue. Whilst starting out in LA she assisted screenwriter Mark Goffman (West Wing, Law and Order, Sleepy Hollow).
Her short films have played at numerous international festivals including Sundance, AFI, Underwire and Tribeca.
